WARNINGS

5:30 AM NST SUNDAY 26 FEBRUARY 2017
RAINFALL WARNING IN EFFECT FOR:

  • CONNAIGRE

RAIN, HEAVY AT TIMES IS EXPECTED. THE FROZEN GROUND HAS A REDUCED ABILITY TO ABSORB THIS RAINFALL.

RAINFALL AMOUNTS OF 15 TO 30 MM ARE EXPECTED OVER SOUTHERN NEWFOUNDLAND TODAY.

RAIN AT TIMES HEAVY WILL SPREAD EASTWARD ALONG THE SOUTH COAST OF NEWFOUNDLAND TODAY. THE HEAVIEST RAINFALL AMOUNTS ARE FORECAST TO FALL OVER HIGHER TERRAIN, WITH LOWER AMOUNTS LIKELY ALONG THE IMMEDIATE COAST. THIS RAIN, COMBINED WITH SNOW MELT DUE TO ABOVE-FREEZING TEMPERATURES, MAY CAUSE LOCAL FLOODING. THE RAIN WILL TAPER TO DRIZZLE AND THEN SCATTERED FLURRIES BY THIS EVENING.

LOCALIZED FLOODING IN LOW-LYING AREAS IS POSSIBLE. HEAVY DOWNPOURS CAN CAUSE FLASH FLOODS AND WATER POOLING ON ROADS.

RAINFALL WARNINGS ARE ISSUED WHEN SIGNIFICANT RAINFALL IS EXPECTED.
