SPECIAL WEATHER STATEMENT IN EFFECT FOR:

  • ST. JOHN'S AND VICINITY

METEOROLOGISTS AT ENVIRONMENT CANADA ARE MONITORING A LOW PRESSURE SYSTEM WHICH HAS THE POTENTIAL TO AFFECT EASTERN PORTIONS OF THE AVALON PENINSULA FRIDAY NIGHT AND SATURDAY.

LATEST FORECAST GUIDANCE INDICATES THAT AN INTENSE LOW PRESSURE SYSTEM WILL CROSS THE GRAND BANKS FRIDAY NIGHT AND SATURDAY. WHILE MOST GUIDANCE CURRENTLY INDICATES THAT THE HEAVIEST SNOWFALL AND STRONGEST WINDS WILL REMAIN OFFSHORE, THERE IS SIGNIFICANT UNCERTAINTY WITH RESPECT TO THE FORECAST TRACK. A SHIFT IN THE FORECAST TRACK COULD LEAD TO SIGNIFICANT CHANGES IN THIS WEEKEND'S FORECAST.
